Found this newsclipping about Mexico and Super-8 filmmakers...
Superocheros ?(showtime: 7 pm.)
Though largely ignored by the retrospectives and archives that claim to define the nation's cinematic production, small gauge filmmaking has existed--and sometimes even thrived--in Mexico for decades. Mexican super 8 cinema? encompasses a highly diverse group of films?. ranging from the ambitious highly polished professionalism of Gabriel Retes' features to the one-shot punk simplicity of Fernando Sampietro's deadpan do-it-yourself amateurism, from the diasporic poetics of Teo Hern?ndez to the engag? documentary of the Cooperatives. Any number of styles and genres and a broad range of thematic concerns are represented. In conjunction with the publication of a special bilingual edition of the film journal Wide Angle devoted to Mexico's Super 8 film movement, guest artist-curator, JESSE LERNER presents a survey of this rebellious film practice, featuring short films by Alfredo Gurrola, Ricardo Nicolayevsky, Alfredo Robert, Fernando Sampietro, and others.- J.L.
